Kinja'd!!!

I’ve noticed a new “feature” of Kinja. There was a time when you would start writing a post and, when you hit publish, it would publish at that point. Now, if you spend 20 minutes writing a post, it posts it 20 minutes ago, back at the time when you started writing. I know that I can edit the post time before I hit Publish, but that’s just silly.

Its been that way for a while. If I know I’m gonna spend some time posting something, or get interrupted and come back to it minutes or hours later I try to remind myself to schedule it, even if I have to schedule it to post in present time.

Dumbest. Feature. Ever.

I don’t even think it’s a feature. It’s probably something that broke when they were adding other features. There was probably a script or something that pulled the current time and updated the time of your post after you hit the Publish button.

I don’t think that’s new - been that way for a while. I reposted that Skylark shitpost because I screwed up the scheduling after saving it as a draft the other day.

But yeah, it’s a shitty ‘feature’.

But it didn’t used to be like that, which is what is so annoying. Somebody actually had to go in and change that, presumably for a reason.

The timestamp is created when the draft is created. If you’d like to publish it in the “present” select the time and click Reset to bring the timestamp up to now.

Yup - so obnoxious, and like others said, it’s been that way for a while.

Yeah, it’s dumb. I always have to remember to go back up and hit Reset on the post time when I finish it.

I know it’s not new , but it wasn’t like that before. It’s fine if you are doing a quick shitpost, or a long post that is scheduled for another day. But if you take, say, 2o minutes to craft something, it ends up getting posted in the past. So. Stupid.

I don’t think I’d ever noticed the reset button before. Thing is, though, it used to reset when you hit Publish. Now you have to reset it manually.

Yeah, I had saved a post for about 12 hours, then came back, finished, and published it. It immediately posted about 4 pages deep.

As far as I can tell, it’s been this way for months. So now I compose my thoughts on Notepad, then copy-paste into Kinja.

So you’re saying that a ‘feature’ that encourages you to complete your entire post within 1 minute and actively discourages and buries well thought out posts is a bad thing???

Amazingly, I do all of my huge Aviation History posts inside Kinja rather than, say, Word and then copy/paste. For composing, it’s actually quite decent. But I’m also writing those posts two to three weeks ahead of time, so setting a future date is part of the process. You shouldn’t have to set future times, or even reset, for an unscheduled post.

There’s been times when I’ve written actual lengthy articles, and those you want to take your time on so the editor might stay open in my browser for a day or two before I publish it. So this article now isn’t getting any comments or stars and I’m all frustrated because I put a lot of effort into it and oh wait it’s cause it’s buried tleight pages  back that’s why.

Unless I’m working on something like an aviation history post that has a specific post date, I’ll often put an arbitrary future date like one month ahead and then save it. That way it’s saved, and I can go back and edit at my leisure.

I don’t think the reset button exists in the mobile version.

It has been like this for a long time though. Many months, maybe even a year+.

I agree completely. I see no logical reason to do it, but it is what it is I suppose.
